Who It Helps

Who it helps?

  • Women’s pelvic floor therapy can help women of all ages who are experiencing pelvic health concerns that affect their comfort, confidence, or daily activities. It may benefit women during pregnancy and postpartum recovery, as well as those experiencing urinary or bowel leakage, pelvic pain, pelvic pressure or prolapse symptoms, painful intercourse, constipation, bladder urgency or frequency, diastasis recti, or difficulty returning to exercise. Whether symptoms are new, ongoing, or related to pregnancy, childbirth, menopause, surgery, or other life changes, personalized pelvic floor therapy can help women improve strength, mobility, coordination, and overall quality of life.

Common Symptoms

  • Women experiencing pelvic floor dysfunction may notice a variety of symptoms that can affect everyday comfort, movement, and quality of life. Common symptoms include pelvic pressure or heaviness, pelvic or lower abdominal pain, urinary leakage or urgency, frequent urination, difficulty emptying the bladder, constipation, straining with bowel movements, or accidental bowel leakage. Some women may also experience pain with sexual activity, discomfort during prolonged sitting, or a feeling of weakness or bulging in the pelvic area.

  • These symptoms are common, but they are not something you simply have to live with. Pelvic floor issues can develop after pregnancy and childbirth, with aging or hormonal changes, following surgery or injury, or from chronic constipation, heavy lifting, or other factors. If you are experiencing these symptoms, a pelvic floor therapist can help identify the underlying cause and develop an individualized treatment plan to help you feel stronger, more comfortable, and confident in your body.

How can the Clinic help & what to expect during treatment.

  • Your first pelvic floor therapy visit is a comfortable, private, and personalized experience. Your therapist will begin by talking with you about your symptoms, medical history, lifestyle, and goals. Depending on your concerns and comfort level, your evaluation may include an assessment of your posture, breathing, core and pelvic floor muscle function. Your therapist will explain each part of the evaluation before proceeding, and you will always have the opportunity to ask questions or decline any portion of the assessment.

  • Treatment is tailored to your individual needs and may include exercises to improve pelvic floor strength or relaxation, breathing and core coordination, hands-on techniques, education, and strategies to improve bladder or bowel habits and reduce pain. Your therapist will work with you at a pace that feels comfortable and will provide a personalized home program to support your progress between visits. Our goal is to help you feel informed, comfortable, and empowered throughout your pelvic health journey.
